Thanks for the book reference, Marjorie. I'll have to track it down. Sounds like it would be interesting to read.

Can Josephus be trusted?
by Pleasuredome inthe works of josephus have been used to back up the gosples, but how can we be sure that those works of josephus wasn't tampered with by the vatican?
this is something i hadn't looked into before and i found this site which raised a few questions about the josephus texts.. http://www.askwhy.co.uk/awmob/awpaul/chr210mancensoringjosephus.html.
has anyone done any research on this?

by Guest 77 ini read your reply to 'not fitting' and i'm sorry to hear that only one person welcomed you to the board.
you have to forgive some of us because the board moves quickly and trying to read as many posts as possible and make replies is a chore within itself.
anyways, welcome and i think i speak for others.

Thanks Craig, ash, Tammy, OCW, and xjw. I'm embarrassed. I wasn't trying to solicit 'welcomes' by my comments in the other thread.
PG was just so upbeat and positive about not belonging in her post. I'm usually fine with mine, but apparently I lost a lower brick overnight in my wall and when I read her post, I felt truly alone; an outcast. Thank you all for making feel part of the forum and the family.

I'd be very cautious of his chronological statememts.
Josephus couldn't count from 1 to 10 without missing a number. I'm only using him in my arguments with JCanon because of Canon's opening statements in the 'Why AlanF' thread.

I Just Don't "Fit" Anywhere!
by pettygrudger ini'm sitting at work today, listening to all the different "cliques" around me, typing here on these boards a bit (don't tell), and it occurred to me again that i just don't fit.. .
it seems like i don't "fit" anywhere.
i'm always on the outskirts of alot of "groups", always on the fringe, but never inside.

Thanks, outoftheorg. I've been here for a while now. Just more of a 'stealth poster' with my contributions, I guess. For quite a few months when I 1st started posting, I wondered if I was using invisible ink.
Petty's 'welcome' came about 8 months into my membership here during one of those 14 page heated debate threads. It was so unexpected. I was still a 'newbie' with very low posts. She just happened to notice.

Lisa,
Your poem broke my heart. I hope you are not thinking of suicide!
I'm glad you liked the poem. It is very uncomfortable sharing it because it is so personal to me. Perhaps in putting it out there, someone else may be able to relate to it as not being the only one who feels this way... or they may take it too literally to heart that they truly don't belong here.
For some of us, suicide is like alcoholism. We face it every day. We have to decide every day not to kill ourselves. To quote a line from "Little Big Man": Today is a good day to die.
Having a mate makes it easier. She keeps me alive. As long as she lives, I live.

I am so angry I am sick to my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Ravyn ini just had a jw come to my door and i had to threaten her to get her to leave!
i told the woman right off i was 'apostate' and had no intention of changing it.
she kept asking me personal questions which i told her were none of her business and she said she would have the elders come by and i told her that if they came by the better be wearing bullet proof vests!

Thank you for the thread, J6OCR9, and for the welcome. Pettygrudger just happened to hit a nerve today and I just wanted to remind her of a kindness she sent my way and thank her. With her being the only one, it became uniquely touching, and her not even realizing how deeply she had touched.
I'm as guilty as anyone about not welcoming new ones to the board. I have on occasion, but it was usually in a thread (sometimes not their 1st post) where it is my 1st reply to them and I would welcome them then. With that said, 'welcome' to each of you who have posted here.

I'm with DFW on this one. Thanks PG for posting a thread where I possibly fit in.
Having had only 2 friends in my life (aside from my wife) who are both dead now has made me truly solitary.
Though not a chatty poster, I've made an attempt here and there at reaching out to others thru replies to their posts or a PM. Except for a few instances, my posts and PMs are ignored. Being basically a loner, I'd like to proudly say that it doesn't bother me. Yet, in truth, I find at times that it does.
You are one of the exceptions, PG. You were the only one to welcome me to the board. Though I did not acknowledge your welcoming me at the time, neither did I forget. Not blaming anyone. I didn't introduce myself.
From time to time I write about not fitting in from different perspectives; lonliness, suicide, frustration. So, as a thank you for welcoming me here, I post this here:
Anatomy of a Suicide
Each day I wander out into this jigsaw society searching for that place where I belong; desparately trying to find that one spot that only I can fit perfectly. And each night I return home again, saddened and exhausted, to stand before a mirror that reflects only a small piece of empty sky that belongs in another puzzle.

Should the U.S. Release Photos of the Hussein Son's?
by Funchback inmy *personal* opinion is that they should because the people of iraq will probably require some proof.
i don't have any interest in seeing the photos but i believe that their photos will spread throughout the internet and the news media and curiosity will eventually cause me to peek at the photos.
don't know why i would have interest in seeing a couple of lifeless bodies though.

To add to Elsewhere's comments, I believe the US is looking into whether it's against the Geneva convention as well.
It will not surprise me if suddenly there is a break-in by an anti-Saddam faction who then steals copies of the photos and releases them for viewing. That way the US gets to have their way of showing the Iraqis that these guys are dead while still looking innocent in the matter. Or, there was an Iraqi photographer who got a few pictures before the area was completely secured.
At any rate, the photos will be published.
